Ofcom is the communication regulator for the UK. They have over a thousand desktop and laptop users spread over several sites in the UK. This means that every year they upgrade and replace several hundred machines for end users.
Bridge Partners expertise was called upon to manage a combination of Ofcom staff and external contractors to design and implement an automated PC deployment system. Using a number of different technologies the system was designed to install the operating system and software based on the specific user, deploy a default profile, apply group policies and copy data from the user’s old machine. This all happens with minimal intervention from an IT technician.
On top of the management of each section of the system and the integration of these units Bridge Partners also ensured the system was fully documented, staff and managers were fully briefed and trained and change management processes were in place to ensure the whole system would stay up to date as technologies change.
